Never had dry nights so really is a big thing.
Went to the doctor in the hoilday about her nightnappies and they took a urine sample. Have been handed over to the school nurse but have still not hear from her.
So both myself and my dd are very please she's got dry with no help it just happened.
Hope this can also bring hope to other parents with older children in night nappies. Yes we have been told it would happen but when she had socking wet nappies every morning and doesn't seen to be getting any drier hard to see their may be an end to the nappies.

dd (8) is on night number 3 too - we're using an alarm though, as had just about got to end of tether and even meds hadn't worked... really pleased for you - it's a huge thing here!!

lexcat · 25/05/2008 16:42

Well done to your dd romy7 I bet she's pleased
Friend used an alarm with her ds and swears by it. Hope the success continues.
Took her to Mcdonalds for lunch as way to say well done. She's hight as a kite she so wanted to be dry as sleepover are just start to happen. Been in nappies at night is not cool when your 7.

Oh that is great for you and especially your DD lexcat- DD1 is 5.5 and still wears Dry Nites. I have tried the usual but have to resigned myself to the fact that she is not ready yet. Gives me hope.

I heard her say to a new friend the other day "X, do you wear nappies for bed?" - X answereed "NO!" - DD looked so upset, she replied "I do" quietly. Really upset me.

Do you have any tips/advice?

lexcat · 25/05/2008 19:55

Sorry no tips really as all the tips I have been told didn't work so really we had given up and hoped with time she would become dry.
I was also told that, till their 7 their is no point seeking help as it's not seen as a problem.
For dd she has been wanting to get rid of them since about 6 when her only other friend in night nappies stopped wearing them. We tried and after about 2 weeks of wet beds we gave up, as she was just getting upset by it all.
Then three nights ago out the blue she had her first ever dry nappy. So of course in her eye shes dry so we've had no nappy for the last few nights. She's been waking in the early hour and going to the toilet and goes straight back too bed.
I still have my fingers crossed will feel more sure when she's managed a week or more.

same here - no-one really interested until they hit 7 - we've been on desmotabs, but she was still soaking (sleeps really heavily and doesn't wake up even if she's sodden) even on a double dose - so we borrowed an alarm - figuring the only way to do it was to wake her up the minute she started to leak. She slept through the alarm for the first three nights, so we had to put a baby alarm in our room, so that the wetting alarm noise woke us, and we could go and wake her... a week in and we've had 3 dry nights in a row - she has to do 14 in a row before she can ditch the alarm. I am so glad we tried it! DD1 only has sleepovers with one friend, who knew she was still in pull ups at night, and both her friend and mum were v sweet, but it's not very grown up to put your pull up on once you've finished painting your nails, and knowing where to put it in someone else's house in the morning is an etiquette nightmare for an eight year old!
So pleased for your DD lexcat... and how clever to have done it on her own! Fingers crossed for no. 4!

Does anyone have any advice about keeping my 4.5 ds dry during the day? We've been at it for over two years and seem to be going backwards - averaging 3 accidents per day. I'm starting to think he might have a problem - he doesn't do full blown puddles - just leaks into his trousers, as if he's taking the pressure off his bladder a bit. It doesn't always show on his school trousers - they're completely non-absorbent - so he gets away with it and ends up reeking by the end of the day. Other kids have started commenting, and I'm starting to have nightmares about him becoming knobby-no-mates. Good luck with the night times though - I'm making a note of all the tips for if/when I get there....

Romy7 · 25/05/2008 21:44

Ah Jackie - I've got one of those too... I know this is starting to sound like I'm breeding children with continence issues, but DD2 has been dry day and night since she was 2, so there's hope for us all. DD1 wasn't dry during the day until the summer holiday in between year R and yr 1, and at that point she'd been seeing the community urology(?) doc for over six months - basically she wasn't interested, she'd rather be playing or whatever, and used to gleefully come out of school and hand me a bag of laundry and skip off... DS1 still has this going on - he's yr 1 now, so I'm hoping that with boys developing later and all, he'll decide he can be bothered to go to toilet this summer holiday. Yep, he smells nasty, we can see it on his uniform (unless it dried, then it really smells) and it drives me crackers. Of course the official line is not to make a big deal of it and eventually they'll work out it's far more sociable to use the toilet than their trousers, but I have to say it's never worked here. We've just got a referral for him - he's had an ultrasound to check him out (I know he's perfectly normal but idle) but I just wanted someone else to have a go at convincing him this is the way forward.

So, absolutely no help at all I'm afraid, but at least you know DS isn't the only one!

(and alarm will be used for him in due course - but I'm more worried about the daytime atm!)

lexcat · 26/05/2008 08:29

Dry again, never thought it could just happen over night.

Look at the ERIC website, it is v ghelpful. My ds (5) was constantly wet, and I was v sceptical about a reward system but...we bought a Ben 10 sticker book, and he gets a pkt of stickers to put in it in the morning after a dry night. And it works! Only wet now if something upsets him (like daddy going away for work overnight etc).

Chandon · 26/05/2008 17:22

jackieo2, my DS (3 and a half) does this and I hate it, he always smells of pee.

It´s not accidents, it is as if he decides to take the pressure off a bit and lets out just a bit.

I make him do a pee at least once every two hours, even if he doesn´t want to, to avoid it.

It´s a constant struggle...

GrapefruitMoon · 26/05/2008 17:30

Ds1 also recently dry (nearly 7). He also had a run of dry nights so we gave it a go without the "pyjama pants".

He does still have the odd accident but a lot less than before - I try to restrict drinks after 6, don't allow Ribena and try to get him to go to the toilet again before he goes to sleep (he reads for a bit after he goes to bed). The accidents seem to happen if he is really tired and in a deep sleep or wakes later than usual in the morning...

lexcat · 27/05/2008 08:10

Becoming more clear that nappies are a thing of the past. Last night been the 5th night in a row.

Romy7 · 27/05/2008 17:39

lexcat - same here - aren't our girls clever?
last night we had a family party and she went to bed v late, and was really worried, but she was fine!
just the boy to see to now....

Jackieo2 · 28/05/2008 21:38

Oh Chandon - I know the struggle feeling so well..... three pairs of trousers today and two rows about not needing to go. He even managed to pee on his football top (his prized possession) - although I must say I consider that the only upside to the situation. I should really start ds2 off potty training, but I just can't face the laundry.
Someone mentioned Desmotabs in one thread - what are they? Also, how does the night time alarm system work? Do you think I could strap one to him during the day?

Minniethemoocher · 28/05/2008 21:51

I am so glad that I came across this thread! DD is 5 and rarely dry in the morning, but she hates wearing what we call her "night time pants".

I don't know anyone else whose child isn't dry at night at age 5 though me thinks that other Mums don't always tell the truth....

I am not actively doing anything about it, just waiting for nature to take its course and for her to discover bladder control at night, she was late to potty train too, well 3 and a half years old.

masey · 28/05/2008 22:05

hi not long joined mumsnet could do with some advice on pottytraining i have tryed a few methods but havent sucessed yet my son is going to be three years soon and i would be gratefull if someone could help me try something that will work

Romy7 · 29/05/2008 11:18

lexcat - a weeeeek!!!! DD1 said to me this morning 'half way there - only 1 more week before I don't have to use the alarm' hooooorrrraaaaayyyy!

ebaldy · 29/05/2008 18:32

This thread makes me feel so much better, DS is 7 in 3 weeks time and only has the odd dry night thought it would bother him as he went to beaver camp a few weekends ago but it seems that over half the beavers were still in dry nights so I don't seem too bothered now. I believe the same as minniethemoocher that quite a few mums don't tell the truth!

lexcat · 29/05/2008 18:39

Well done to Rommy7 dd, we've also made the week. DD was just reading over shoulder and explained the posting about your dd, her words were." COOL hope she's as proud as me about been dry at night."

OP posts:
CarGirl · 29/05/2008 18:44

I really want to borrow an alarm for my dd, she is 6 in a few weeks - is there anywhere that hires them or do you have to buy? Dd is just a very heavy sleeper, her 2 younger sisters are both now dry and night so she is very very and that she is still often wet.

Romy7 · 29/05/2008 19:07

we borrowed it from a friend who bought it on tinternet, but some health authorities will loan them - sometimes they aren't the best though, and it's a bit odd wondering who else has been using it!!!

drisleeper.com on the box...

lol lexcat - she caught you! and yes, v proud!
