When to drop daytime naps.....

Hello

I have 2yr old DS and (luckily) he has always been a really good sleeper.

Up until a couple of weeks ago he was having a 2hr nap each afternnon at around 1pm until 3pm.
He would then go to bed at night at 7ish and fall straight to sleep and sleep through until 6.30/7.00am.

Then a couple of weeks ago he started to stay awake in his cot at night until about 8/8.30pm (not crying just moving around and talking to himself!) He would then still wake up in morning at 7am but be really grumpy for the rest of the day as he had had a late night.

..so I have dropped the nap altogether and things are going quite well. He is a little more tired throughout the day but when he goes to bed he goes to sleep striaght away and sleeps until 7am.

REally just checking with what you guys have experienced.. Dh and I are just a little worried that maybe we are dropping thia nap too soon ??

Any advice?

(sorry for the long post)

Nope, sounds perfect to me if its helping his nighttime sleep. You might find occassionally he still needs an afternoon nap, between 2 and 3 ds1 tailed off his afternoon naps but still needed them every so often especially when he was having a grwoing spurt

thanks Pheebe - thought i might be a bit cruel "depriving" him of his afternoon sleep!!

same here, with my dd naptime was "dropped at 18 months, very early but she refused to sleep. so instead of fighting we kept her up until 19Hoo and shewould sleep 12 hours straight. With my DS naptime was stopped (on his accord) at 2.4 months.
Now they are 4 and 3 yrs old, goes to bed at 19H00-19H30 and sleeps until 7-7:30.
I prefere to have a relaxed evening and not to fight with them for ours in the afternoon, because they HAVE to sleep. The are happy and playing nicely so I don't worry. Some parents do give me they look, but then again there chilren sleep 2 hours in the afternoon, stay up until 21H30, andthe parents battle every morning to get them ready for school. (we live in france)

You have done exactly what we have, DD is 2.4, we still find though that she will have a daytime nap probably every 3 days or so just to recharge her batteries, we know this as she will snuggle on sofa in front of a DVD instead of running around garden.
