i have a 6 month old, healthy but teething with 2 teeth already through and sleep is horrendous. From 10 weeks old to 4 months he has slept at least 8 hours uninterrupted through the night with 3 naps during the day. Then for the last 2 months he wakes every 2 hours and will not go back to sleep unless I feed him. I have been feeding him to sleep since the day he was born but I cannot keep waking up every two hours by the time I’ve fallen back to sleep I’m getting maybe 3 hours a night. I’m struggling a lot. Have I completed screwed my baby up by feeding to sleep? Does anyone have any advice on how to break this cycle? I would appreciate any ideas on what to do!

thank you, thank you, thank you

I had this with my little one when he was slightly younger (he has just turned 6 months), it turned out he was cold. We started with changing up bedtime routine to place his feed before it’s time to go to sleep and it worked after about 2/3 days. I also made sure his sleep pressure was really high before bed, so his last nap is about 30 mins at 5:30ish, then he is kept awake until bedtime at 8:30/9pm.
bedtime routine starts at 7:30 and we bath (not soap every night, just a dunk into water and a splash) to signal its overnight sleep time. It’s then out, moisturise and massage in a dim room, all very soothing and gentle, then fresh jammies, into sleep space and fed, then dummy in and read a bedtime story while cuddled. We initially cuddled him to sleep, then shifted to putting him down drowsy but staying holding his hand. We are nearly at putting down and him soothing himself over.
overnight, I don’t offer him food first, I lift him and soothe himself etc/ tuck him under the duvet with me on my chest to warm him up if I suspect that’s what has caused the wake. Don’t get me wrong first few nights was hard as he expected food but he got the hang of it quickly. I also don’t feed him right before a nap during the day, I’ll time it to feed him in the middle of his wake window so food isn’t at all associated with sleep. Xx

I don’t think ots anything to do with feeding to sleep no. It sounds like the 4 month sleep regression closely followed by the 6 month sleep regression.

How often are they feeding in the day? I would try and concentrate on getting as many milk feeds as possible during the day.

Daylight has also been proven to aid nighttime sleep so aim to get them outside at least twice a day.

We also had some success with the No Cry Sleep Solution Flowers

We had the same feed to sleep association but I got a sleep consultant in and within 3 days my baby was sleeping 11-12 hours without how help. Best thing we did was to get help!
