FTM so very aware of milestones. My little boy has hit all the milestones so far but not putting anything in his mouth yet and according to HV he should be? Has anyone experienced this? I can put things in his mouth and he’ll taste it and gum it a little. His only really interested in his hands. Sometimes he has put a muslin in his hand and gummed on that but not often. I’ve been guiding him with teethers and using his own hands to hold them. He gets bored of this quickly. He can swat and bat at things above his head on his baby gym but not really reaching out for things over. HV was useless and couldn’t really help me out just mentioned to keep an eye on it as it can lead to problems weaning.

So firstly, is there a reason that your HV has assessed DS at such a young age? Are there other things going on that have prompted the assessment?

Did the HV ask you to fill in the 4 month Ages & Stages?

How did DS score overall? It’s fairly typical for a DC not to be able to do everything on the assessment. Typically most LOs will be scoring grey in at least two areas. So it’s not really a concern that he’s not putting things in his mouth unless you e done the assessment and he’s scoring grey in more than two areas or he’s scoring black in any areas Smile

No other issues apart from a traumatic birth and a referral to the perinatal team for anxiety due to infertility and previous family history of baby loss. DS was not formally assessed just something I have noticed when in baby classes comparing him to other babies . Thank you for the response and the assessment form was very helpful. He scored grey in one area so overall doing okay it seems.

I’m so sorry that you’ve been through all of that and hope the referral has been useful for you Flowers

Scoring grey in one area is exactly where most babies will fall. He’ll probably start doing it in a few weeks and you’ll wonder why you worried Smile
