baby nightlights

Hi all, can anyone recommend a really dim nightlight that i can get for our bedroom? My baby is 10 weeks old, she's currently in the moses basket in our room, and when we go to bed, if she makes a sound, i like to be able to see her, so the room has to be dim, but still light enough for me to see if she has been sick etc... We started off with the landing light on, but found it keeps us awake! I then bought i Winnie the Pooh nightlight, thinking it would be dim as it came with an energy bulb - well, its like bloody Blackpool! So that is on the landing now, but even that is on the bright side. Any suggestions? thanks

Can you get a lamp with a darkish shade and a low wattage (20 I think is quite dim) bulb. Plug in well away from the moses basket. It may have to be a naughty bulb as opposed to energy efficient.

Alternatively we prop our door open slightly and leave the light on on the landing. (in our house that is the floor below as we sleep in the loft, in your case it may mean the hall light rather than the landing iykwim).

There is enough light coming up the stairs so I can see what is what.

I used to use a mini reading torch...

You can get really dim ones in mothercare that plug in to the socket

SlightlyMadSweet · 21/05/2008 21:36

You can get teh little "plug light" things that plug in teh socket and glow. That is literally it though - a glow.

Alternatively can you put a dimmer switch on your light/landing light?

Tiggerish · 21/05/2008 21:37

we were given an Alessi night light for DD. It is really dim - just enough for her to locate it iykwim. I'll try to find a link....

Go with the "plug in" lights - they give off a vague glow all night and don't disturb anyone while increasing visibility.

waiting4bambino · 21/05/2008 21:38

yeah, i did wonder about the ones that you plug directly into the socket and they glow - i didnt know if they would be too dim. I will try the hall light to see if that works! Don't fancy pointing a torch around the place!!! Perhaps i should get one of those fishing headlamps that are on elastic!!

We have just bought a Lumilove light by Pabobo, you can get them at Boots I think that they are on offer at the mo and are about £20.00. They are very sweet and change colours in a relaxing way and are also chargeable so you can have them anywhere.

fadingfast · 22/05/2008 18:13

We bought a light for this exact same purpose and it's fab. It's called a 'moonlight' and plugs into the socket giving a 'restful diffused green light'. It is energy saving and costs less than 0.5p per day to run continuously (according to the packet). The light it gives out is just perfect - bright enough to be able to see baby but a very natural light that doesn't disturb sleep. DP found it somewhere online I think so I'm not sure how much it was but I would highly recommend.

Agree 100% with fadingfast - wish we'd had a moonlight from the beginning! Costs £10 - can get them online (just google moonlight)- looks like the cheapest of all the above options. Also great for staying away as really small. Good luck!

AitchTwoCiao · 24/05/2008 20:25

it's not the cheapest... the ikea one sounds just like the moonlight. plus, a new lightbulb is cheaper still.

You could also try a Grobag Egg -room thermometer and soft light in one.
