19 month old DD has developed an aversion to standing on/ walking on grass...

We'd normally have a great time running around the garden/ park, playing hide-and-seek, kicking a ball and watering the flowers...

Then last weekend we bought some sandals and DD took exception to the grass.

We have replaced said sandals with socks and shoes, but to no avail. She just wails inconsolably and refuses to move.

Am trying to get back the old DD who didn't give a monkeys as long as she could toddle about- playing games, pointing out plants, she's fine being pushed around on the trike. Just as long as her feet don't make contact with the ground.

Anyone else been through this???

Yes - my dd did this. It lasted all summer (as she turned 2) I'm afraid but this summer she's been fine. Just had to stick to parks with other surfaces and grassy areas with paths running through.

Thanks Acinonyx, I'm glad your DD got over her aversion- she was at a similar age then.
Did it start the same way and were you able to change her mind, or did you have to wait until she'd decided it was OK??

Sorry all these questions but it's driving me nuts and we have the huge luxury of a massive garden and living next to some greens and commons. And I know all her friends will be tearing about, kicking balls etc!

And I really don't want us to be the odd-ones-out sitting on a picnic blanket watching all the other babes playing.

She wouldn't even go on the slide the other day as it involved traversing 2 metres of grass.

Totally normal phase (I hope). We took DD to Egypt last December (she was 18 months) and she wouldn't go on the beach or grass - only on the concrete around the pool .

She's now okay to go on the grass, fully shod, but won't stand herself up if she falls over, just whines until we help her.

We're off on hols in a couple of weeks so hopefully she's grown out of it.

LilRed, LOL about not standing herself up! But seriously annoying too. I hope you all have a great holiday.

It came out of the blue in the spring - just wouldn't step on grass. I'm afraid she just went the whole summer and eventually she just got over it. it took a long time though - and she had a long break over the winter wear we didn't really try to get her on grass.

The worst thing was that where we are all the paths are paked with cyclinsts - really dangerous for toddlers!

PearTart · 19/05/2008 22:59

Same here re: paths, we live in Cambridge so loads of cyclists.

Toddlers can be wierd! DD has always been willful- yours too?

Hey - we live in Cambridge too! DD is a shy, gentle child - not naughty but fantastically stubborn.

See you around- we prob go to same groups...! (I keep meaning to put up a profile but haven't got there yet.) This weekend I will get DH to scalp the lawn and then try to tempt DD to forget about the grass with biscuits and games. Wish me luck!!

We're about to move out of town and we don't go to any groups these days. So your secrets are safe with me
