Baby Cooing/Babbling milestone

Hi.

My baby boy is just over 6 months and has never really made any effort to make noises towards myself or family in terms of cooing or babbling.

He does however make various noises and sounds such as ahh ahh, ee ee, ga gee, gurgling, little squeals like he should be, But only brief periods when he first wakes on a morning and after naps, or if wide awake at night for attention. Infact, when he does do it, he is very noisy and it's great. However, As soon as he has our attention, it stops and he's pretty much silent all day. (Apart from the obvious cries for milk and tiredness)

I spend most of the day interacting with him, nursery rhymes, talking to him etc but get no sounds back.

I asked the health visitors helpline, but they just said ohh just wait a bit longer before we can discuss, despite milestone apps saying to consult them.

i have 2 teenagers who were very chatty in baby language at his age, so naturally im comparing.. Also, i am a bit obsessive with looking out for autistic traits, due to being older parents this tome around (39 and 42) and having so many friends and family with autistic children...so am I focusing on this too much or do you think it's cause for concern.

Any similar experiences or advice is much appreciated.

I can understand you comparing her to your other DDs. If you’re concerned at all, I would do the 6 months progress checker from Speech & Language UK. They are a really well respected charity and it will tell you if your LO needs support Flowers

My older two never really babbled. Ds did a lot.

The older two were fully in sentences before 18 months, ds was slower, possibly because he had hearing issues. I asked the HV if I should be worried about his language and they fell about laughing and said he was doing more than fine, and I shouldn't compare him to his sisters.
