Hi All

Need some advice please :)

My baby boy is 3 months old and still congested (has been since birth)
Even when I put saline and suck out everything he sounds the same as before I did it.

He also sometimes sounds really chesty (I have already had him checked at the doctors and they said his chest is all clear and he is healthy (oxygen and weight ect is all normal). They have told me sometimes with c section babies it takes them alot longer to get rid of it as they hadn't been through the birth canal. I understand this but 3 months!

I have been told to give it another month, if it hadn't changed to come back to them

Just wondering if anyone else who had a c section had the same problem? If so how long did it take baby to be clear.

Thanks!!! Appreciate any advice/experience provided :)

Is it just that the mucus hasn’t cleared or does LO have digestion problems as well? And have you treated them as though it might be House Dust Mite Allergy?

LO doesn't have digestion problems and doesn't have pain after eating or anything.

No i didn't even know that was a thing, how do I treat it as such?

Hey,

My boy also a c section baby; and he is three and a half months now, and I have had the same issue.

He was so bad from birth, and at times he became so congested he had to mouth breath.
When it was at its worst, the Dr said it was an upper respiratory infection, but nothing serious and would go away eventually.

We had from the beginning done a more intense clean on the home. Got an air purifier etc. And still he had issues. However if you haven't by all means still do this, and also check for mildew and mould in the home.

Eventually it has gotten better over the last few weeks. He isnt chesty anymore. We also use the saline and we down to only doing it once a day now. We used to have to do more, or he wouldn't breath right and it affected everything.

Just spray the saline, wait a minute. Then we got an electric nose aspirator (not sure what you using) as all the others seem to not help. And we tied so many different kinds. We just sterilise the nozzle after each use. Other things that helped is you can add more humidity, so use a baby safe mister. Or take your baby into the shower room when it's misty after running it or a bath. It helps loosen up the muscus. We just did the bathroom one, we didn't get a humidifier. Then unless it's needed don't over do the nose, as it can make it worse. Just clear it when needed.

Not sure If any of that is helpful.
But just know you not alone, and according to people I've spoken to it does also improve with age, and that seemed to vary a lot.

If he doesn't improve, still take him back to the Dr to keep checking in on him. Better to go and everything is healthy, then leave it and something has come up.

Hiya. My DD is 11 weeks and I’m having the exact same issue with her. I’ve been told the same as you. It just doesn’t ever seem to get any better for her.

Thanks so much for the advice! I di the same as yourself saline and nasal aspirator - I have both the electric one and the one you suck manually.

I also have a air purifier and a cool mist humidifier as I heard it helps also.

If I'm honest I don't tend to do his nose more than twice a day as he hates it! So I don't want to stress him out.

Fingers crossed it does get better for us all eventually.

I will for sure take him back if nothing changes and insist he sees someone more specialised in ears/nose and throat as I don't want it to go on too long.

I am scared it could be laryngomalacia but I do think the symptoms would be more severe! I guess just have to wait it out

Thanks :)

@CHoll251601sounds like you got it all covered and you doing everything you can. You a great mum, and you doing a wonderful job. Just remember that, can easily get caught up in what can't be fixed; as a pose to just being proud of what we doing, to keep the little ones as happy as can be.

I totally understand your worry, we over thinkers as mums and it's a good thing. We have to protect and look after our babies. But also try take a deep breath and don't over stress, take things as they come.

I spoke to someone today, they said their little ones cleared up around the seventh month mark (he is about to turn 4 and a happy chappy). So let's hope for sooner, but just know other c section mums out there also went though it and got out it.

@MumQ8 thanks so much really appreciate your kindness! It's defo easy to go down all the negatives rather then focus on all the good sometimes as all you want is for them to be happy and healthy!!

Wiser words couldn't have been said !!! <3

Thanks so much you have really made me feel better actually and hopeful it'll be cleared up sooner rather later!

You sound like a great mum too and glad I spoke to you x
