Not walking 16 months old

DS2 is not walking and is nearly 17 months. DS1 walked at 12 months and my niece has just started walking at 10 months! I only really have these to compare it too but should I be concerned? One of my friends made a comment today ‘oh he’s still not walking?’

He was a late crawler too and took a while to wean. Should I be flagging this or is this still normal?

Is he making progress towards being able to walk?

Pulling up, cruising, standing, weight baring?

BunnyRuddington · 12/04/2025 07:50

Weight bearing is the main thing to be concerned about I think? Will he walk holding your fingers or stand at the side if you planed a toy on there for him?

He will pull himself up using a sofa but if we try to hold his hands or fingers he legs just curl up and won’t hold :(

So is he doing any weight bearing?

@BunnyRuddingtonyes, he can pull himself up onto chairs and cruise that way

Oh ok so he’s cruising, that’s good as it’s only of the things they look for.

Do you think it’s a confidence thing then? Has he got one of those push along walkers so that he can hold onto it?

If he’s cruising do you hold something out to him that he’d like, but slightly out of reach to encourage him to take a step? I found chocolate to he very motivating Grin

Not walking isn’t a concern until they are 18 months though. If he’s still not walking then you’ll need to see the GP.
