Need help with practicalities for a bed wetting much older child

A child may be coming to stay with me who bedwets. At the moment I have a double bed with a feather duvet. Practically it would be better wouldn't it to swop it for a single with some type of mattress protector and thinner, easily washed in machine, duvet.

What other things am I missing ?

I can't talk about the emotional reasons or anything associated because of confidentiality but would appreciate any thoughts on practicalities

Good ideas Laurie....maybe also really easy way of him/her dealing with sheets if they are wet so they don't have to just leave it to be found or have to come and tell you. e.g. washing basket in room or just outside (if old enough to do this themselves) .

Have spare sheet and cover handy and PJ's so that everything can be sorted quickly with the minimum of fuss.

If the child is able to take bedding off and put it in/near the washer then I think that helps them feel more in control.

I take it they don't wear the pull-ups for older children then?

Just asking because my ds1 was not dry until very recently and rather than have to wash the bedding every day he wore "pyjama pants". Obviously they are not cheap but... plus they can be put discreetly in the bathroom bin.

If that's not an option yes definitely swop the feather duvet. IIRC you can get duvets for children that unzip into two pieces for washing. If the duvet itself is only slightly damp you may be able to get away with spraying it with Febreeze and airing it on the clothes line.

Another option while the weather is warm is to ditch the duvet and put a thin fleece blanket inside the cover - much easier to wash and dry than a duvet...

definitely too old for pullups, is apparently mostly dry but not always and I'm predicting that it will be difficult for the child to move here so expecting a re occurence.

Love all the ideas, great idea about the laundry and the unzippable duvet.
