16mo old not waving, pointing, or responding to her name

She maintains good eye contact, claps, lots of babbling, has maybe a vocabulary of 5 or 6 words. She smiles when we smile at her. She is lively, enjoys playing with her brother and me and my husband. She has a 1mo sibling that she is largely indifferent towards however. She don't seem shy or reserved in public or with strangers. She flaps her arms around a little when excited. She tries to repeat words.

But she doesn't wave, even when we're waving to her, she seldom points, and I don't think she responds to her name. She responds to other things (certain commands she's very familiar with for example), but not consistently or very rarely to her name.

She had a low birth weight, and we're a bilingual household. We generally speak to her in my husband's native tongue, but she hears us speaking to one another mostly in English. No autism in the family.

A HV is visiting next week about something else (feeding and sleeping were an issue between 12 and 14 months but these are largely resolved now).

Should I be concerned? I keep reading about how not responding to their name is a big indicator of autism in toddlers. Also that waving is a milestone that should be reached by 16 months.

Thank you for reading and I'd be grateful for any advice or to hear of your experiences.

Are you using the one parent, one language approach?

No, we were encouraged just to use both languages at home as we usually do by the HV.

I'd be grateful if anyone had any related experience with their child.

I’d ask in the multicultural section @Glenda56as I’m sure that being bilingual does initially delay them talking although obviously it’s hugely beneficial Smile
