Has my late talking ds caught up - length of sentences in typical almost 3 yr olds.

Just curious, ds started off really well with his first words quite early but totally stalled between one and two. He was only doing two words together by maybe 2.2.

Then progress was pretty slow so I've posted on here before about my concerns.

I'm pretty sure he's now caught up with 'average' - he's 2.10, says lots of 4,5,6 word sentences and some up to 9 words.

Starting to use personal pronouns etc.

Pronunciation - I'd say I understand him 90% of the time, occasionally I don't, and other people maybe 70% or 80% of the time - his pronunciation was definitely quite off the norm but he has made step changes (I hate that phrase but it's exactly what has happened). It's like a switch has turned on in his brain.

Overall I've always felt he was a bit borderline for asking the HV for a SALT assessment. Never too bad but a bit borderline.

Does how I've described his talking sound pretty typical for almost 3?

Can I finally put my concerns to bed?

Thanks Moondog. You have answered some of my questions in the past. That's amazing if he has caught up so much as he was definitely a fair way behind other kids I know.

I've had to do a double take sometimes recently - he has just suddenly improved so much e.g. 'mummy can I have spaghetti big cook little cook on tv please' etc. (spag bc lc being a fave episode!)

Maybe this gives comfort to others who have a dc with minor speech issues - quite sudden improvements have happened a couple of times with ds.
