DD (9) Is this 'normal'?

Had to change my mumsnet name for this. DD has younger brothers. She has a stepdad (known since v tiny, no contact with dad). That might not be relevant, but there's the history. She is really moody - suddenly hits a red rage and screams, throws herself on the floor, puts on a weird voice, won't listen to reason etc. She can't stop herself apparently, and doesn't care if she wakes anyone up/ does it in front of us etc. Outside the family, she is lovely. She is also lovely when she is not doing this. last night, her add tried to jolly her out of it and she hit him twice. What should I do? My family (who are too far away to know) suggest she is jealous of the boys, and needs physical affection from us. I am not v tactile with anyone over the age of three. Help? Sorry it's a bit long.

They go through a lot of hormone changes around this age to prepare them for puberty. Have you tried herbal tea (camomile is very calming).

no but will do, thanks. Am loathe to speak to school nurse etc as hate the idea of itbecoming an 'issue'

The school nurses are fab! I spent time working with some, they are so helpful. Have a chat, they may be able to give you some strategies to help her out.

oh okay, great. Was thinking of this.

I think hormones. My strategy is to back off and wait till they come down off the ceiling, though that can takes some time. My dd1 and dd2 are like the child on the exorcist (sp), they even embarrass themselves!

Just think, when she's 20, you'll look back and laugh!

Hormones occurred to me - she has hairy legs? and looks v old compared to classsmates. is it not a bit early tho? or do they kick in first?

My dd is 8 and has recently started storming upstairs and slapping her bedroom door if something doesn't go her way.

Hormones come first, real puberty later.

Ok - so do I tell her the facts of life (she knows the sex stuff, I mean the periods bit)?
