wriggly baby fighting sleep

My dd (20 weeks) has recently gone into a cot. After a few tough nights she started to settle well in the evening and for (some naps). BUT then she learnt to roll over and now when I put her down at bedtime she rolls and wriggles and seems to be fighting sleep. She does not cry the whole time, but she just does not seem to find it easy to calm down and settle to sleep.

I do the whole bedtime routine ... bath, turn lights down, little feed, cuddle etc and she gets really sleepy and then as soon as I put her down in her cot it all starts! I have tried leaving her but she just gets more and more upset. Dont know how to get her to calm down and go to sleep. Any advice?

No special expertise here- jut a DD three weeks older. I was wondering, do you have black-out blinds? And does your DD sleep in a grobag, or wriggle her way out of blankets? Not too hot? Windy?

My DD does sometimes wriggle and cry a bit when I put her down but given the chance she can settle herself. (By that I mean, not charging in if she is only crying sporadically- as a mum I think we can tell if they are really distressed but I have really found it helps to ignore low-level chuntering). Great big wails often seem to mean a trapped burp so we do dash in then.

She also has a comforter toy that I have slept with for a few nights which she seems fond of?- is that an idea?

Or a night time song?-I am sometimes to be found singing lullabies in the corner of the room while she wriggles in the cot!

thanks wobbegong ... am about to get black out blinds so fingers crossed that will help.

Weather so hot at the moment it is hard to keep her cool ... just a shortie baby grow and a sheet just now. i will try the toy idea.

Last night she turned herself all the way round so her feet were where her head should be. I dont feel she is distressed, more cross at being put in her cot and leaving her does not seem to help, then again neither does staying with her!

Maybe when the weather is a bit cooler she will settle better.

Wow that is very wriggly! There was me being impressed by my DD's shuffle from one side of the cot to the other!

I am so with you - my ds is 5 months and sometimes it is like taming a little beastie.. i think it is their age - he is rolling alot during the day and seems to take ages to wind down. I think they are really tired.
My older dd is a wriggly one and even at the age of 3 can twist herself into strange positions in bed - think of it as being healthy lively children

Hi, my ds is the same (5 months) - one night he will cry and fuss for ages, the next fall straight asleep. Nothing we do seems to help!

The only thing I can see that makes a difference is making sure he gets his proper afternoon nap (he'll have one at about 4:30pm for half an hour, then go to bed at about 7pm)- I'm pretty sure that if this gets messed but that's what makes him overtired and annoyed later.
