15 month old concern

Hi all, my son has just turned 15 months old and I have a couple of concerns.

He doesn't:
Point but we have only just started doing it as it’s not something we do often. (He’s been clapping since 11 months and waving from 13 months so no issues there)
Doesn't come and show us his toys.
Doesn’t give when I ask for something he’s holding
He's not yet taking any unassisted steps.
Not able to stand alone without holding onto something.

He does:
Make great eye contact
Responds to his name, though only when he’s not distracted by anything else.
Babbles a lot and he has about 4 words. (Yeah, no, hiya and uh oh. He’s not yet saying mama)
Looks at us while playing with his toys.
He started cruising a few weeks ago and can take some steps with his walker.

I’m just worried that he might be a little delayed, especially with the showing.

Hi mama x
still very very young and they can change from one week to the next . The fact that he engages with his look when playing is a very good sign . Does he follow your point when you point at something ?

None of this is outside the normal range of development for his age. Enjoy him, try not to worry. Keep offering lots of opportunities for physical play, lots of chat, books and music, different experiences and opportunities. If he has screen time, turn it off.

We have had exactly the same concerns with our daughter. She is almost 16 months now and she has just suddenly started walking! She doesn't show us her toys either, doesn't understand simple commands, and doesn't use gestures. She does make good eye contact with us though when she is not distracted by something else. At times I have become overwhelmed with worry about her development and whether there are any underlying difficulties, but she is showing small signs of progress and I am trying to hold on to these moments.

I would say he follows where I’m pointing about 50% of the time, it’s very hit and miss.

Thanks everyone I was just so worried that she wasn’t where she should be. She does greet me with hello and hi mamma but also she does singing a few songs like frozen .. and it makes me worried a little bit

I had Ige who was a late talker too. I think it’s worth filling in and scoring the 16 month Ages & Stages. Scoring in the grey in a couple of areas is pretty normal. If he scored in the grey for more than two areas or in the black for any I would book an appointment with your HV to discuss the results Smile
