What do I do?

Hi, I don’t want to be one of those nauseating mums that thinks my child is the best and brags etc etc. but I’m kind of at a loss here on what to do. My 18 month year old is ridiculously clever, to the point it spooks us sometimes. She can count to ten, recognise random numbers and words, has an extensive vocabulary and applies them in the right context. People, shapes, colours, objects, animals etc etc..My mum told me I walked and read v v early, but I squandered any brain I had being a 00s wild child. Her nursery are talking about moving her up as she’s ahead but the other kids look a lot bigger than her.. 3/4 and I just worry about her. Also my mum is saying I should start potty training, as she’s pointing to her bum and saying poo poo before or when she needs to go. (I did not teach her this). I’m with her 24/7 except 2 nursery days. How do I handle this? Is this normal? Any advice? I’m immensely proud of her but I want to foster this development, without pushing her and losing out on the just the fun of toddlerdom x

This is MN so you'll probably get someone telling you that she is behind compared to their LO Grin

I would talk to Nursery and ask why they want to move her up. She may be bright enough for the older group but I doubt she will he physically or socially ready to mix with 3 year olds for 2 days a week.

I had an early talker too. I would still do this simple SLT progress checker. Sometimes they can be advanced and we miss that they are missing or behind in one particular aspect of their speech and language.

It might be helpful to also look up hyperlexia.

Pinterest might be helpful for you too, there will be lots of suggestions of activities suitable for the age range 18 months to 2 years Wink
