Does anyone find constant engagement with toddler exhausting?

Hi

I’m not naive to the fact that a nearly 3 year old needs loads of input, lots of interactions and play. but unless I’m constantly talking and interacting with my LO, and I mean constantly, she’s bored. Then if I do happen to switch the tele on for a bit of a mental break or to do some cleaning I feel the mum guilt creeping in. Anyone else in this boat atm or have any tips?

There is nothing wrong with tv/tablet time.

As long as your child is going to the park, swimming, soft play, play areas, toddler/pre-school classes ect. then there is no issue at all with them having tv/tablet time every day.

There are lots of things you can do with them at home such as painting, drawing, baking, playing with toys, playing games ect. but you don’t need to be doing it 24/7.

Picking 'good' TV makes me feel better about it, something with a good story or something educational. Also, try getting some activities prepped, playdoh has been brilliant for my 2.5 year old.

Don't worry your child doesn't need soft play, swimming, play areas and classes. It needs stimulation and love. You don't need those activities for that. Just going out and about for a walk or doing something out of the house, going to look at a building site or anything like that is good for them. You don't need fancy stuff.

3 year olds are pretty full on yes but they do grow up and it does get easier

I wasn’t saying that all children need all of those things but they do need to get out and do different things which is all I meant 🤷‍♀️

There is nothing wrong with a bit of TV. Try and do it at the sane time each day so it becomes something you can look forward to and gave a cuppa and a wee in peace.

I found TV was useful late afternoon when they can be a bit cranky. Sitting cuddled up whilst they listen to an audiobook can be helpful too and gives them a chance to relax.
