At what age did it because clearer of the severity of autism in your child? My little boy is now two and it's very obvious that he is autistic, it runs in my family, he is non verbal, stims a lot, very rarely answers to his name. he basically has every trait of autism. I just wondered at what age you know how serverly they had it?
I have come to terms with a lot of it but am up and down with anxiety about how his future will look.

Thank you so much

My son's 4 and we've been told there's a chance he may never be fully conversational (he now responds to his name after a lot of working on it but he's non verbal, high sensory needs, not in a place to be potty trained etc) and honestly i would say it was quite clear at 2 that he could have high support needs.
However, there are children non verbal at 2 and you wouldn't know at 4.

For us, by age 5 we'd seen zero improvement and it was clear he was always going to have significant difficulties. He is 15 now, he does have significant difficulties but he has made huge leaps forward. No matter how old they are things can still improve, we've made more progress in the last 2 years than we'd ever seen in the 10 years previous. There's no point worrying about the future at 2.

In his portage class, the children were all nonverbal at 2. 90% of them were talking relatively normally by 4.
