Slight asymmetrical mouth concern

Hello

Wondering if anyone has had experience of this - I've noticed my 4.5 week old has an asymmetrical mouth when yawning/ crying. Otherwise looks normal - googling has given me quite a fright about other conditions this could be a sign of! Does anyone have any insight/ experience of this? I've added a pic of her yawning x

I totally get how worrying this can be. First off, try not to panic too much just yet. In many cases, a slightly asymmetrical mouth when yawning or crying in a very young baby can be normal. Newborns' muscles and facial structures are still developing and maturing.
It could be that one side of the facial muscles is just a bit less strong or coordinated at this stage. However, it's always a good idea to mention it to your pediatrician at the next check - up. They have the expertise to examine your baby more closely and can determine if there's any cause for concern.
Based on the picture you shared, it doesn't seem overly alarming, but a professional opinion is definitely the way to go. Chances are, it's just a passing phase of your baby's development. Hang in there!

@LuckyQuoter thank you :) interestingly I've been told the link between the chicken pox virus (which my 3 yr old has) and Bells Palsy which can cause temporary facial paralysis - it could well be that given she wasn't born with this and the latch changed just over a week ago..seems like too much of a coincidence! But I'll contact the doctor for their thoughts - it could well be one of those baby things! X
