My daughter always wants food….

My DD is about to be 22 months.

She eats like a horse! She has three meals a day, good portions, and will often ask for more.

She wants snacks all day. Usually asking for biscuits (which we have now swapped for rice cake and she doesn’t seem to know the difference) or some raisins or banana. Whenever she finishes she asks for ‘more’.

We cannot eat around her as she just wants our food. Even eating as a family she wants her plate and ours.

I post because she is quite a bit larger than my friends girls of other ages. Not hugely noticeable, but when undressed she has a big tummy, bum and legs. I LOVE these and her chubby little cheeks, she is my little cuddle monster - the most adorable little cherub. But OH does wonder if we are feeding her too much. She still seems built like a baby, almost.

I also worry as she goes to nursery now (very recently) and is in the kids room (2+) rather than babies so she wouldn’t have to transition. Yesterday when changing her for bed and tapped her tummy and said “[Name] fat”. Broke my heart. She certainly hasn’t heard that from us or anyone we know.

she is active, loves running around. Dare-devil girl who loves jumping off things - so gets plenty of exercise. But she never seems full.

Can you over feed a toddler? Can you just keep feeding them if they appear still hungry?

Note: she doesn’t get angry or anything over food. She likes to share her snacks with us (ie: force feed them to us!!!)! It isn’t like she’s in a food rage.

It's hard to know without knowing her height and weight centiles.

did you ask pediatrician or HV for advice?

Crazycatlady79 · 03/02/2025 13:17

Of course you can overfeed a toddler and it's a really unhealthy start in life for any child to be overweight.
Speak to your HV or GP and get some support because if she knows the word "fat" in relation to herself already, then her weight is more noticeable than you think.
At her age, it is 100% the responsibility of you and your husband to turn this around.

@NickD87 hasn't even said what her LO's centiles are so it might be a bit soon to jump to talking to the GP Wink
