Should i be worried about 5month old weight?

Ok - i went to get DD - 5 1/2 months old weighed, she weighs 16lb and is just above the 75th centile chart. HV asked how many feeds she was getting - she has four feeds a day between 7 and 9 ounces. HV said that i should wake her in the night to give her MORE food , i said but look how big she is. I then asked her to measure her, which she didn't do as i think that DD is long - she is bigger/longer than my friends baby who is the same age.

Should i be worried - especially having watched 'to fat to toddle' last night! I am really upset, been crying over this as i don't know what to do!

I don't want to grow a fat baby!!!

Sometimes i really dislike being a parent - so much to worry about.

sounds liek she is gettin enough. are you feeding on demand? if so then i see no reason to wake her if she is happy to sleep through the night! that is my personal view but i would not worry as my 14 month is only 17 lbs and he is fine just small.
seems that HV give different advice than each other!
just keep doing what you are doing and do not worry.

Surely if she's not waking in the night, then she's not hungry and is getting enough in the day. That's what most people are aiming for, that they take what they need in the day, so that they can sleep through? Are you bfing or ffing? If her weight is steady I would ignore that advice, it just seems silly.

She is FF, i also think if she was hungry she would wake for a feed, as it is she will wake for her dummy but then happily drift off again - so far anyway. I am tall and so is DP, so the chances of DD being small is remote IYSWIM.

I don't understand. Why would the HV want your baby to have more food, when she's on the 75th centile???

You know what? I think you should stop taking her to be weighed. If you weren't worried before you went to the HV, then don't worry now. Does she look fat? If not, then don't worry. If she does, then maybe worry if she's still looking fat when she's 2 years old and has had a year or so of running around to burn off the baby fat.

I don't think it's unusual for ff babies to sleep through earlier, nephew of mine does when he has a top up at nighttime and he's slightly younger, they'd laugh me out of the house if I suggested they should wake him up. If your ds wasn't maintaining his weight then that's a different matter, even then though would surely give him more in the day rather than wake him up. Some hv's have no common sense. (sweeping statement, but they do like their charts)

You and your baby sound very happy and well fed so maybe you should speak to other Mum's and maybe ask another health visitor if you can.

Chances are you'll be on solids soon and feeding will change.

Sounds too horrid to wake up your baby.

i got my son weighed today,he is 5 months and 1 week and weighs 21lb 12oz. he is so cute,i asked if he was too fat and she said def not, looked very healthy, happy and is almost crawling, sitting up etc. he is just loving his food and getting very active so dont worry, every baby is different. my niece turned 1 in april and weighs 21lb and she is totally healthy too, they are all different,go with your instinct, its usually right
