Not crawling/Sitting and rolls back onto back the moment she is on her Tummy

Hello Mums/Dads

My baby girl our first one turned 10 mo old a week ago and she was born at 38 weeks, which I assume is not a premie and full term, however, we have been trying for a couple of months to put her on Tummy, and she is not at all comfortable and just rolls back onto her back. She did roll at the right time of 5-6 months, however, no other milestones reached yet. She doesn't crawl or make an effort either. Very lately she has been trying to sit for a few min without support but when she falls to her back/side she cannot pull herself back. Have to assist her 50%. She does stand with support but does not take any steps forward or backward. She was born small and is growing on par with her birth height & weight. The moment we put her on her tummy she rolls back immediately or stays on her tummy for a few seconds if we hold her in that position and then after 1-2 min she starts to get fussy and cries out loud to let her roll back onto her back. Me and my wife both are worried a lot as she is growing older. Any suggestions are helpful.

I don't think that the tummy time is a concern if she can roll into her back. Is there a reason that you've only just started to try tummy time? Not criticising, both of mine pretty much hated it but I thought it was one of those things you should try pretty early?

Anyway, as I said the tummy time thing wouldn't bother me but I would fill in the Ages & Stages and see how she scores.

If she scores in the grey in more than two areas or in the black for any area then I'd book and appointment with your HV or GP Flowers

Does she have reflux/silent reflux? If they do, tummy time can be painful, so they roll to escape it. Usually by ten months, that's improving, though. She might still have an association with it being painful, though.

How does she do on this questionnaire? https://www.broomfieldpediatrics.com/wp-content/uploads/2019/09/ASQ-3-10-Mo-Set-B.pdf Do check the scoring chart at the back, though – they never expect six 'yeses' in a section. It's a pretty good overview of development, and is what most health visitors use. If she scores in the black for any sections or has lots of grey, I'd get in touch with your health visitor and ask for a review. (One or two sections is the grey is not uncommon, and usually resolves itself.)
