How do I stop my 2 yr old stripping off?

Thomcat · 04/05/2008 20:58

Every morning I go in to her and she's in her cot standing there stark naked, no nappy and often a wee on the mattress.

No massive biggie, but I'd rather she didn't tbh. Quite bored of changing the sheets every day.

I've asked her not to, told her not to, been cross, explained why she shouldn't etc.

She says "sorrrrrrieeeeee" every time and then does it again the next day.

Sure, she'll grow out of it but would be nice if she stopped, like NOW!

Any tips?

have you tried the vest things that popper up between the legs under the pjs?

my ds couldnt work out how to get them open until just recently. she may still get the pjs off but at least she wont get her nappy off and will have at least a vest on.

Thomcat · 04/05/2008 21:49

Can you get vests with poppers for a child of 2?? I'll have to go and google.

selatpe

Divastrop · 04/05/2008 22:01

agree with copingvquietly

i find quietly accepting things like this and just dealing with them without any fuss helps them to pass faster.why do 2 year olds like stripping?my 2.4 year old has started taking her 14 month old sisters clothes off as well as her own

Thomcat · 04/05/2008 22:17

Yeah ok.

Tescos do popper vests in age 2-3. My DS has been in them since 18 months courtesy of a lovey MNer who sent them to me.

forkhandles · 04/05/2008 22:20

yes to vest with poppers! I have a smilar stripping DD and it's the only way to keep her nappy on! They do those vests in up to about 3yrs I think, DS only just not wearing them and he's in size 3yrs clothes.

Smithagain · 04/05/2008 22:20

Goodness knows.

Mine's just learned to say "I want to be naaaaakeeeeeeed!" with a gleeful look in her eye. Preferably in public

We had a minor confrontation today when she was determined to strip off in the front garden. It wasn't even hot.

singyswife · 04/05/2008 22:21

Maybe she doesnt like the wet nappy in the morning. Is she toilet trained., Maybe she would like to get out of the cot and wee??? Just a thought???

readytoswiggin · 04/05/2008 22:34

I have some 2-3 yr old popper vests that I no longer need if you wish to buy some 2nd hand...

Be glad it is only wee on the sheet

AgonyBeetle · 04/05/2008 22:46

Plan A: Grobag-type sleeping bag that zips from the bottom.

Plan B: As A, but put on back to front so zip is at the back.

Plan C: As B, except secure toggle of zip to fabric with a lock-headed nappy pin.

Plan D: Throw in the towel.

Can you tell I've been here too?

Olihan · 04/05/2008 23:07

I have quite a few age 2-3 popper vests that have only been worn a few times. You're more than welcome to them if you want to try them. CAT me or email me at olihan 1 @ hotmail dot co dot uk.

mankymummy · 05/05/2008 07:43

you can get them in mothercare too, up to age 3.

JoyS · 05/05/2008 09:24

Just sympathizing. My 2-year-old is currently wearing a nappy and baby legs. Any attempts to dress her are met with ear piercing screams and then when you give up (which I have) she pats her chest and says "I'm a NAKES" in a very satisfied tone.

onwardandupward · 05/05/2008 10:08

Go with the child's preference. They'll let you know when they are chilly, and then you can wrap 'em up in clothes or a blanket or a poncho or something.

serin · 05/05/2008 19:02

Is she ready to use a potty?

My dd used to take her nappy off from 18months and throw it out of the cot!

calvemjoe · 05/05/2008 19:07

Try pants over her nappy, they're a bit harder for her to get off. Or popper vests M&S and next have bigger sizes if your dd is tall.

Flame · 05/05/2008 19:09

She's 2??? Noooooooooooooo?? REALLY??

Agree with poppered vests

BarcodeZebra · 05/05/2008 20:36

Read this over lunch and I'm still laughing at "I'm a NAKES"

Sorry. Not much help. Nude is just what they do at this age. Sounds to me like she either wants to potty train (prob too early) or you need to secure the area as suggested.

DefinitelyNotMARINAWheeler · 05/05/2008 20:51

Unless she is incredibly tall Thomcat you should still be able to get poppered vests and indeed babygros which you'd have to be a toddler genius to get out of...Boots used to sell ones that were HUGE when they came out of the packet, dd was still in them in her fourth winter (and is now tall for rising five)
But as for the stripping off...
Our neighbours' elderly, friendly (no English though) parents have just come on an extended trip to the UK.
Sitting quietly on the patio, recovering from the flight, they are treated to starkers dd yodelling from the top of the TP den, "I am a boodist! I love my BOTTOM!"
Some people were born to be strippers alas.
And the "mime of regret" I had to do for that poor old couple

foxythesnowfox · 05/05/2008 20:54

Hear the call of "Nuuuudyyyyy ruuuuuunnn" and a two yo DD zips past

Before you know it she'll be insisting on wearing nothing but vest, pants and tights, and sunglasses.

marmadukescarlet · 05/05/2008 21:00

LOL @ Marina's boodist!

DS (3.5) has been naked most of the day.

DD (8.5) was horrified at his uncouth behaviour until I pointed out that until she started nursery she spent most of her time as 'I nudey' - Blink as she'd stripped.

She even worked out how to get envelope necked popper vests off without undoing the poopers. I got solid necked ones, so she just took her nappy off from underneath!

BarcodeZebra · 05/05/2008 21:54

Ever the booky toddler, DD1 likes to shout "NO PANTS AT ALL" (qv "Pants" by Nick Sherratt) as she tears around in the buff.
