Why is my 2-year-old ignoring us?

I have a bright, busy, bossy almost-2-year-old dd.

Over the last few days she has started occasionally blanking her father or me.

Typical example: we're at the table, everyone chatting, eating supper etc.
DP: DD - would you like a yogurt?
DD: No reaction
DP: DD?
DD: No reaction
Me: DD, Daddy's asking you if you'd like a yogurt.
DD: No reaction
etc

She just carries on in her own little world with whatever she was doing. She's such a busy-body normally - in to everything, that it's really out of character and DP and I are both finding it most odd.

Typical toddler behaviour?
In some way related to the arrival of her brand new baby brother?
I don't think it's a hearing thing.

Sorry i'm not much help but my dd2 2.1 does'nt even talk (apart from 'mumma' etc..) She does'nt realy react to us when we ask her a question, she reacts when we tell her not to do something but not if we ask her to do/get something.

Dd2 is in her own little world, i think she knows what we are saying but chooses not to hear

normal. totally.

she's showing she's happy with her own company.

my DS did this at your DD's age... take it as a compliment, she's chilled out and secure enough to play in her own world. and dont forget what she's doing is v. v. important to her...

as long as she listens when its important (e.g. crossing the road), i wouldn't worry.

Thanks Marne.
Yes, hears, but chooses not to hear is about right.

It's really off-kilter for dd though. Not like her one bit. A phase perhaps?

x-post mm.
That's a nice way of looking at it. Thank you.
