Why has she started waking in the night?

Hello,

I have a long winded question....

My 5 month old has slept through from about 10 weeks (no dream feed required, 7 till 7). She was exclusively bf until recently as I have started to introduce formula feeds in the day but she still is bf in morning and at bedtime).

She has recently started waking once in the night crying. My question is why? My usual procedure is to wait and listen to see if she settles herself, then go in and place hand on her to see if I can settle her (she carries on crying), the I have tried calgel as i thought it might be teeth. She does seem to settle slightly when I have done this and last night went back to sleep but woke up within 5 mins crying again. At this point there is not much consoling her so I have fed her and she is then fine and can be put back in her cot to fall asleep on her own.

When I feed her she btakes about 7oz, so I am thinking that maybe she is hungry, however just wnated to check with all you experts out there, as I don't know if I am doing the right thing.

Sorry this is like an essay!!! She is also much more windy since having formula and I think she is teething.

Advice please.

Thanks

So many things happen at 5 months...

My first guess is that she is hungry. Did you bf her or bottle feed her during the night? BF would be better I think, less chance of wind. What formula are you using?

Second guess - sounds a bit far fetched, but the changes of season, temperature and sunrise/fall can have an impact on their sleep.

Third, she's theething.

And fourth, she might be going through a little bug, and might come out with a cold in the next few days. In which case a little water might help is she has sore throat.

Has she started doing more physically during the day - maybe turning over or sitting up? Sometimes a new activity during the day can make them wake up at night

Thanks for all that info.

I have bottle fed her in the night because I was worried about milk supply for the morning if I feed her in the night myself. I have been using apatamil with no real problems.

Last night she slept through again

She has started sitting up and rolling over.
