Planning a Baby Sensory Group—Looking for Parent Insights and Ideas!

Hi all,
I’m in the early stages of planning a baby sensory group and would love to hear any suggestions or tips from those who have attended similar groups.

I’m aiming to create a space with simple, fun activities for babies and toddlers to explore, along with a calm area for those who need a break.

If you’ve taken your little ones to sensory groups before, what activities did they enjoy most? Any advice on what worked well or things to avoid?

Thanks so much for your help!

I'd have a look at the franchises for pointers.

They have a weekly theme with songs, puppets, props all relates to it. I also liked the break in the middle as you could socialise, play or tend to baby.

I attended a Speech Language Therapy group for my baby and toddlers. Each week was themed to avoid repetition.

But they all followed a similar plan:

  • welcome song, greet each child in the song
  • introduce the activities, music, objects, textures, play etc.
  • introduce toys, balls etc
  • activities lasted 10/15 min each
Introduced idea of helping pick up and tidy
  • wrap up the session with goodbye song to each child.
Was an hour long in total.

Book corner for those wanting quiet time.

Floor seating on those puzzle mats so soft but cleanable.

Last session they did water play, foam play, cereal play and kinetic sand (toddler group)

Groups were babies 0 - 12 months then toddlers 1 - 2 years.
