Mine is talking in morse code.

'D d d d d d der d d d d'

That is about it.

He's 11 mo. Oh and the occasional 'Mmm umm'
or

'Nang nang nang' when upset.

Does he babble or are those the only sounds?

used2bthin · 04/05/2008 09:04

My DD is 19m and althhough she has said more, atm she will only say "in there" which is gradually changing to "oh dear". She also went through a phase of only saying "day" these could/can be said in a variety of ways to express different wants etc I'm thinking that some of them just like the repetition!

gecko has been saying mum muuu and daaa daa and sometime dad since about 10 months
she is no 15 months and has just started saying ta at the appropruate time and yesterday she learnt doggy but it sounds like doddie

NurkMagiggy · 04/05/2008 10:16

Well he did sort of babble for a while, but seems to have stopped

Maybe he will just be a Man Of Few Words...

How is his hearing?

NurkMagiggy · 04/05/2008 17:48

I don't know, Cristina (nice name!)

He didn't have an 8 mo check. I just called him and he heard me from a few feet away...he sings a fair bit too. I think it is Ok.
Might go and ask for general check as I feel like neglectful mummy.

If he sings then I think it's a good bet that his hearing is good.

I was asking about the general babbling because some hearing impaired babies start by babbling, it's such an ingrained, innate desire to communicate, but then this tapers off as they don't hear themselves babbling or others reacting to their babbling, so they don't get any feedback and they "give up".

But turning to his name (esp. if he didn't see you) and singing are good, you can discount any hearing problems. He'll probably pick up other sounds in no time at all.

Thankyou, that's really interesting - I am a bit concerned now...will try and get him checked. At least it might stop me worrying!
