5 year old still in nappies at night

My son just turned 5 and is still in nappies. Potty training was fairy easy at 2.5 but we have never had a single dry night nappy. I read that unless they produce a specific hormone then they aren't ready yet and our HV told us that until there are a fair few dry nappies not to attempt night training, so with this in mind I've never done anything to try. But now that he's 5, I'm wondering whether I should give it a go to see if it ignites some consciousness around not weeing when asleep or if this is useless? How do you even go about stopping night weeing? Should I try some potty training pants as opposed to a nappy with some bed protectors and see how it goes?

My eldest two wore pull ups at night until age 9. My younger 2 are the same. Once the pull up is dry for a month in a row they will stop using them. The ability to be dry at night is related to a hormone the body produces- and some children develop that a little later so no point stressing over it.

Pull ups from lidl or aldi - or supermarket own brand are fine. They only occasionally leak so a mattress protector is no harm

Night wetting is still pretty common at five, so I wouldn't worry, but equally, you could try following the advice in https://eric.org.uk/advice-for-children-with-night-time-wetting/ about good drinking/toilet routines and then try a week or two without nappies to see if he gets the hang of waking for a wee.

Is he bothered about it or quite happy with a nighttime nappy still?
