The last few weeks have been torture, DD2.5 is not potty trained yet but no real issues pooing in her nappy up until now (although she's not super regular) .....fast forward to Christmas and I don't know if she had one that hurt or what's going on but she went a few days between poos, starting struggling really badly to go and now I can tell she is actively holding them in. Been to the GP - she's on sennakot and lactulose which has worked once since Monday but now we're having another tortuous night of screaming in pain (we've been giving both every day on instruction)

She won't sit on the potty although there must be a trick to get her there? Would appreciate any tips. She's having dirty smears on her nappy every time she 'tries' / holds it in so we're constantly changing and she's getting sore so ...vicious cycle. Hates being changed whereas before it was fine. I'm sure it's 90% psychological because the amount of laxatives she's had should be making it easy. The gp said they shouldn't cause her discomfort but she's beside herself with agony and it's breaking me.

I've heard Laxido is better? Should I push for this? We're pushing all the right fruits/liquids. I genuinely think it's all ready to come out she's just doing her best to keep it in. It's so bloody frustrating. Her speech and language is good enough to be able to communicate the issue but even when I ask what hurts when she's crying in agony she won't admit to anything.

Sorry for long one - last night might have been the worst night of my life and I'll try anything to stop her pain. Will anything work to at least reduce the tummy pain she's forced herself into?

You absolutely need something like movicol or laxido, it will make the poo soft so it doesn’t hurt to go. Sennakot will stimulate the bowel to make her go but won’t help with the withholding. Have a look at the Eric website.

We recently had issues with out 4yr old withholding and movicol worked a treat both physically and psychologically

I found lactulose gave my DD horrendous stomach cramps, so we switched to movicol which is so much better.

How is she today @Edenmum2? Has she managed a poo yet?

I think you've had some good advice already, including looking at the ERIC website.

Just wanted to add that you might want to try some pain relief for her, if you haven't already.

A nice bath might help her to relax enough to poo too and does she have a potty? Squatting on the potty whilst watching CBeebies and having something fiddly, like a small box of raisin to eat might help her.

You have my sympathy though, nobody wants to see their DC struggle like this Flowers
