Missing Teeth

My dd is 20mth and one of her teeth hasn't yet come through. It's one of the top front four and am very worried because these usually are one of the first to come through.
She has all her other teeth. Has anyone else experienced this? Have no idea how I'm going to get her to open her mouth for the dentist (which is a new problem altogether!)

My ds is 15 months and only has five teeth! He didn't get any until after 12months. He has an impressive dribble rash so I expect more are on the way but I'd be surprised if he had them all by 20months.

Annie

My DS has a missing incisor, I had wondered if it may erupt later, but never appeared and he is now over 2. He does have a gappy smile and a chipped one (on rocking horse), so not a great ad for perfect occlusion. When he is older he could be xrayed to see if the missing incisor is unerupted or simply absent altogether.

Unfortunately, often when the milk tooth is missing the corresponding second tooth will be mising too. Don't worry, as long as they are healthy, any malocclusion can be sorted out later by the orthondontist.

for god s sake they all get teeth eventually. stop stressing and expecting everything to be by the book.

Badmamma,

chill out, if people had time to read the book, they wouldn't be on here.

Badmamma, surely the point is that maybe they don't all get all their teeth eventually? It probably doesn't matter that much and can be sorted out by orthodontics, but isn't it still a concern for the average parent? (Annie1, I'm not meaning to imply you're an average parent!!)

Dd2's teeth seemed to come out in a strange order and the 2nd two top ones have only just emerged (19 months), having been lurking under the gum for months.

I'd just have a word with your dentist, Annie1, next time you're there. Good luck with getting dd to open her mouth

Badmamma - it's Christmas...have a mince pie and try to be filled with the festive spirit. You seem to have a habit of appearing just to make someone feel worthless before sneaking off into the night again.

Have a lovely break...bah humbug

Annie - are you sure she's got all her other teeth because 20 months is comparatively young to have the back molars all through. DS has got most of his pretty early and at 22 months we've still got two back molars to go. My neighbour's little boy has started to get premolars (he's 17 months)but still has gaps at the front like your DD.

I take DS to the dentist when I have my checkup (so the one currently due will be his fourth visit) and he loves it - all the bright shining things. I find it slighly offputting when he's sat on my lap while I'm bing examined. The dentist has managed to examine his teeth to the point of charting what has arrived....
