Why does DS2 'twitch'?

Don't remember this happening with my other two
DS2 is 17days old and I noticed the last couple of times I've seen him sleep that he twitches, his whole body does it, and not just once or twice but a good ten/twenty times, one after the other, very much like the startle effect but with no noise or movement to trigger it.
Is this normal or something more worrying?

I would get him checked.

DTDs did a similar thing it originated in their arms or legs but shuck their whole body.

It only happened when they were in ahot environment or over-wrapped and sleeping and 'disturbed' (i.e. all 3 conditions together not one or the other).

Consultant (form NNU) saw them do it and was mildly concerned. They were going to have an EEG to check brain activity but they seemed to have grown out of it before it was booked. The only explaination I was given was that because they were prem it was a defence mechanism against overheating (something to do with shedding heat or something). I have to say I wasn't convinced but we stopped them overheating and it stopped so they never got referred for EEG.

D3 also did it to some extent but nowhere near as bad.

Worth getting checked if it is concerning you. Mention it to HV and guage her response (body language as awell as verbal) or bring it up at 6wk check? If you are more worried make an appointment with GP sooner.
