DD won't wear shoes

My DD is a year old (today) and she's just started walking. My MIL took her to Clarks to get her some shoes and apparently she cried like crazy when the shop assistant tried to put them on her. Anyway, MIL bought them but DD won't let us put them on. She screams and cries and wriggles and just won't let us put them on her. Has anyone else had a similar experience? If so how did you get her used to them? She doesn't like wearing socks either, she's forever pulling them off too.

dd was like this, i just left the shoes laying around so she could have a look/play with them a bit and get used to them, let her think puttong them on is her idea!

So let her go barefoot. Or am I being daft?

They need to have been walking for 6 weeks before they get their first proper shoes anyway. Get her some of those little leather bootee type things, or padders - she doesn't need proper shoes yet.

Unless they are going to be walking properly out and about I would forego shoes and socks (if she doesn't like it) and just get her to wear booties to keep her feet warm when you go out.

Shoes are only really necessary when child needs to walk out doors. All these cute little baby trainers etc. are for the parents and not because babies actually need shoes.

I had the same problem.

I had to take one of mine barefoot on a freezing day to a supermarket -- I had to go, and there was no way he was wearing them, or socks. I wasn't cross, I told him he'd be cold and he might see it was a good idea afterwards. Did he really want to? Yes he did.

He was COLD. He decided to wear shoes next time. It was a battle I didn't want to have so long as he didn't hurt himself.

its better to let them go barefoot so that their feet can develop properly

shoes can be too restricting and its not natural anyway

unless of course she is outside
