Can a 6 week bottle fed baby drop a night feed?

Hi. First time mum here. My baby is 6 weeks old. He is bottle fed and putting on weight well. We usually feed him anywhere between 9-10pm. He is still still walking at around 2amish for food and around 5am but recently he hasn’t been taking a lot when he wakes, sometimes no more than an ounce. I’m wondering whether he is waking more out of habit than actual hunger? He is on about 5 ounces per feed during the day. Can we drop a night feed? If there a way of breaking the waking habit as I don’t think he’s actually hungry? Or do we just carry on and let him guide us? Thanks.

It is recommended that babies younger than 9-8 weeks eat every 4 hours, because their stomach is small and bigger feed windows can make them dehydrated.

As long as the baby has good weight and gaining good weight on every weighing appointment, you can feed on demand. We started feeding on demand from 4.5 weeks onwards.

Having said that, during the night (12 hours), my baby wakes up 2 times to eat. The first time is 6-8 after the last feed, and the next one is 3-4 hours after. When my baby is hungry, there's nothing that can stop his crying except food and he will drink the whole bottle. He eats a lot.

Can you try rocking him to sleep again instead of feeding? Perhaps he's hot, cold, or just couldn't connect his sleep cycles. When the temperature drops in the room, my baby's cold and he wakes up. I change his sleeping bag and rock him to sleep.

I think sometimes he wakes when the room gets a bit chilly in the night. I have since been trying to give a little comfort instead of going for a straight feed and sometimes it has worked. I will see how we get on! Thank you.
