Young babies and daytime naps....

Do your LO's have daytime naps? and if so how many and how long for.

DD wont nap, she is tired and just screams at me, despite being fed, and having a clean nappy.

how old is your DD?

claraquitetirednow · 29/04/2008 16:11

How old is she? dd2 (20 weeks) still needs to sleep every 2 hours or so in the day, usually for between 30 and 60 minutes at a time. When I get to about the two hour mark and she is obviously tired, I put her down - sometimes I need to rock her to sleep, sometimes she'll go off on her own.

I found using a dummy helped get her into the "sleep habit" but I have now chucked it away as was sick of getting up in the night to replace it!

My LO is 13 months and has two naps, one mid morning the other mid afternoon both approx 2 hrs. My friends children on the other hand don't really sleep much during the day so it all boils down to each individuals needs I suppose.

DD is just over 5 mo. She wont take a dummy she will snooze for about 5 mins while I am feeding her bust as soon as she spits my nipple out she wakes up.

She sleeps through most nights from approx 9pm to 7.30am so i cant complain on that score.
She is just miserable cos shes tired but fighting it.

I cant rock her to sleep as she just screams, I try her in the pram/push chair and she will sleep after about 30 mins of walking round the block/park, but as soon as I get her back she just wakes up.

Has she always been like this or is it something new? She could be teething - all sorts of wierd things happen to them when this starts. She might also just be more aware that you are going to leave her if she goes to sleep so is fighting it. Or just not want to be left out of whatever else is going on in the house.

SHe had naps in the day up until about 2.5 mo, just not since. She wont let me put her down and cries when I have to put her down to go to the loo and other essential stuff like eating!!!

my lo is just the same. She had just started to take 3 regular naps a day when she began to teethe and will now only nap for about 20 mins at a time in the middle of a feed - usefully! Have just spent a hour driving around aimlessly just to stop an overtired baby meltdown!!

GoodGollyMissMolly · 29/04/2008 16:39

duellingfanjos (love the name btw) DH does that, drives round with DD to get her to sleep and it seems to work. Only prob is that I dont drive... so when DH at work I cant do much wit h her.

Miss Molly. Have a look at this thread. I had a similar query and got some useful replies.

DD is 12 months and rarely naps during the day, only in the morning about 2-3 hours after waking for about an hour. All afternoon without a nap doesn't seem to bother her though. She then goes down about 8pm. Along day for us but if it gets too much then I drive her round the village a few times .... does the trick!

GoodGollyMissMolly · 30/04/2008 10:34

Thanks all for the advice. Eaglebird, some good tips on your thread, I ill try out putting DD in her grobag rocking her to sleep in her pushchair.
At night she will go to sleep after about 20 mins of feeding once she is in her grobag, it never occurred to me to try it in the daytime.

Thanks all
