Two month old not turning head when parent walks in room

I just wanted to check if this is normal. DS is two months old and loves looking at lights, strong contrasts etc. He is good with eye contact, smiling in response, and making vowel sounds. He passed his hearing check at the hospital.

Earlier, I was holding him upright and his attention was focussed on the lamp in the room, the rest of the room was dark with a dark wallpaper so it’s a strong contrast.

DH walked through the living room door from work and said ‘Hello DS!’ But DS didn’t turn to the door or stop looking at the light. It’s as though no one had walked in the room at all.

Is this okay for this age?

Sounds normal. 2 months is too young to expect much of anything really

A lamp will just be that much more interesting than a noise on the other side of the room!

Especially one that isn't startling/scary.

My son was obsessed with lamps at that age.

Totally normal.
When dd was 2 months she was fascinated by lights. We left the Christmas lights up for months as she loved them so.

But it'll be a few more months before they start responding to you coming in and saying "hello". But that makes it so lovely when they do. Especially when they get excited with both their arms and legs.

My daughter was like this. It was only when she still wasn't turning to voices or sounds at 4 months that the HV was concerned. She arranged for us to have another hearing test. She was a very unsettled baby and cried all day at 17 weeks we went on to high dose reflux treatment and I went dairy and soya free and within a week she was responding to sounds and engaging with us more. They now think she was probably just to miserable and in pain to engage with us.

We first raised it at 8 weeks but at this point they weren't overly concerned as it was within normal range to not be able to do it. If you shake a rattle behind them do they turn to the sound?
