ASD in Toddlers

Hi all

Can anyone give me any advice regarding possible ASD in toddlers and how to handle it. Our biggest concern is unprovoked hitting & pushing and lack of play/ interaction with other children.

I’ve had the HV out and she shares my concerns but due to age (27month) little can be done until school.

I am considering pushing for a 2 year old nursery placement but unsure if I will qualify as we both work and Toddler is at the childminder one day a week.

TIA

I'm not sure that's true. Is that what the HV said?

And has the HV at least referred them for a hearing test to rule out Glue Ear as the symptoms can present like ASD?

Has she told you about any support groups locally for parents of DC with SN or any Nurseries or Playgroups for DC with SN?

What referrals has she done?

Yes apparently the guidance has changed and no referrals can be done until school age now. Gave me some reading but no support groups either.

That's not good enough at all. You need to get back in touch and as for a referral for a hearing test and SLT. I'd also ask for Occupational Therapy and Portage. Also ask about those groups too.

If the guidance has changed I'd want to see it too. My HV often talked a load of crap and could never quite produce any evidence to back up what she was telling me.

If she does produce evidence to say that there are no referrals to a Paediatrician until 4, consider writing to your MP about how this is affecting you and how the guidance needs to be changed Flowers

I'd also apply for ECHP if you're in England do that it's in place before school starts Flowers
