Toddler repeats things over and over and over...

DD3 who is 23 months will not stop repeating words over and over.

It was nowhere near this bad with the other two, but this ones behaviour has always been extreme. I've actually been wondering if she has some form of additonal needs for a long time now.

It doesn't matter if we acknowledge the word, ignore it, distract her, tell her off etc - it does not stop.

We were eating tea tonight and I pointed out to DH that it was a bit too spicy. So she repeated "spicy" to which I obviously said "yeah, spicy but that's okay eat up"

To which she proceeded to say "spicy" another 30 times. To which I said "okay enough now, eat food". For her to then continue saying it on repeat for 10 whole minutes. This is common of what she does. She goes on and on and does not stop. It's driving us all insane.

Before she started with this repetitive behaviour she used to shout, non stop from morning to night. At absolutely nothing. And once again it didn't matter if we acknowledged it, ignored it, distracted her - anything. She would just shout and shout constantly. She also has the worst temper of any child I've ever met. Am I right in thinking this is autism or ADHD?

I can't cope with this stage lasting another year for her to then move onto something else equally as frustrating. Our other two daughters are nothing like this.

If you're thinking that she may have additional needs it's probably best to do a couple of the Ages & Stages to see if they pick anything up:

24 month Ages & Stages

& 24 month Social & Emotional Ages & Stages

Thank you!

The first questionaire she passes with 100%, meets all her milestones and I've never had any concerns about any of that (which is why I feel like I don't get listened to by professionals)

The 2nd questionaire I hadn't seen before, but she scores a lot differently on that one! I'll discuss that one with our health visitor and see what she says, because I reckon that one would help highlight her behaviour a lot better x

Definitely discuss the results with your HV and show her both of them together. I hope you get some support Flowers
