2 year old suddenly waking up when always slept through???

My LB is 27 months old - just over 2.
From 9 months old he'd slept through sometimes from 7pm-9am, so guess it's just come back to bite me from the luxury of all that sleep!! 😁

But since the last couple of months he's been getting up at night about twice, he'll only go back to sleep if I give him a milk mainly, the odd time he'll go back without one. Would there be a reason for this or just because he's older I'm not sure? He goes to sleep at 6.30/7 but it is the same outcome if he goes to bed later.

He had 2 full bottles of cow milk last night and just feel it's unnecessary but I'm just so tired at the moment I give in. Half the time he doesn't even cry just walks out the room into mine or opens his door and stands there.

I'm not saying it's a big issue of course I'm just feeling quite tired from broken sleep as he gets up early and my partner bloody snores and end up having to go in the same room as my LB. And on top of that I've had toothache agony all week! Sorry bit of a rant there lmao.

Also to add - he's always full before he goes to bed so can't be hunger because he's been eating all of his tea and a little treat afterwards. I think he finds comfort in milk over anything else.

Thanks :)

You need to stop the milk. You're teaching his body that it needs this in the middle of the night (it doesn't) and creating a cycle.

When we wakes take him back to bed and resettle. Offer water, no milk.

Agree with not getting into the habit of giving him milk during the night.

I would concentrate on getting him enough calories in during the day. There's a good guide here from the Caroline Walker Trust.

Thank you I'll stop the milk :)

He's got all of his teeth yeah, I thought that but he's been to bed in a velour onesie and his blanket and his duvet. So I don't think he's cold! X

My DD always liked being a bit warmer, still does now as a teen.

One thing I used to do was put a fleece blanket between the sheet and the mattress. Don't know why it helped but it worked for her Wink
