Head circumference question

Hello all,
I know you are not my pediatrician but lately I feel like my child's head looks small. People keep saying it doesn't but I feel like it just does. She is 8 1/2 months and her head is measuring 17 inches. Does this seem concerning to anyone? Her next appt is not till December however. So I was just going to wait until then. I believe 44.5 is the norm for an 8mo baby girl?

Who is the appointment with @kayla8?

17 inches is just over 43 cm. At 8.5 months, on the UK-WHO charts, that's between the 25th and 50th centiles, so very typical size. (I read the average as being 43.5 cm.) Do you know what centile she's generally been on for length and weight?

Is she under the paediatrician for any particular reason, or are you perhaps in the States where children routinely see a paed rather than a GP?

Yes my apologies I am in the states. When I came across Mumsnet it didn't even occur to me! I don't know if that makes a big difference however, I know many things are probably done a little different in the US. She has always been 50th percentile for weight and height! There has never been any concerns. I just have felt that her head was pretty small. I could be measuring incorrectly myself, which is probably why they recommend you do not do that at home for anxiety purposes

You hats very probably the case WinkFlowers

From what skyyelark says it sounds as though your DD is pretty much where she should be. I'd talk to your Paediatrician who I'm sure will reassure you Wink

I just asked about the paediatrician and where you were in case your wee one had another condition that might make this of extra concern. It won't make much difference to the centile charts.

But overall, your daughter sounds well in proportion, near the 50th centile for everything!

Thank you for getting back to me! :) I appreciate it! I think all will be well! Seems that we both saw similar information regarding percentile as well so fingers crossed. Lesson learned to not measure myself lol
