Hello all I have a daughter who just turned 16 months old and wanted to come on here to ask some questions. She doesn’t seem anything like my friends daughter who is the same age. I’ve compiled a list of things she does well and things I’m concerned about Things that make me wonder if it’s typical -she isn’t fully independent walking yet -joint attention is spotty in the sense that she doesn’t really look at me to share her enjoyment or interest in things -she gets very fussy and throws fits constantly throughout the day and I seem to struggle soothing her - she only brings me or shows me items she needs assistance with, not to share a moment in showing -has lost ability to say two consonant sounds -does not smile responsively or often -doesn't follow instructions all the time I get ignored quite a bit -she likes to look at my mouth rather than of my eyes -she seems uninterested in people -she flaps her hands and rocks back and forth quite a bit Things she does -points to request and show but doesnt look my way often especially when showing -waves bye bye and hi when I tell her to -signs for more but in her own way -understands when I ask her where something. Is or if I say the name of something she’ll look at if -talks sort of, like “da” for dog “ca” for cat but not - consistent, she has maybe 8 of these I would very much appreciate any feedback. A girlfriend of mine pointed out that my daughter seems “different” from hers and it has me worried

I think that if she's lost two sounds together it's always worth speaking to your HV.

It could just be that DD is concentrating on developing a new skill, like walking.

If you do think she's developing a little differently from her peers I think I'd do the 16 month Ages & Stages and the 18 month Social & Emotional Ages & Stages.

You can complete them and either mark them yourself or ask your HV to mark them and discuss the results.
