DS talks gibberish all day long and it's driving me bonkers!

DS is nearly 3 and has quite a good vocabulary. However, he does like to talk gibberish- A LOT! Loads of nonense words and sounds and it's driving me nuts. I know I should probably find it cute but it's starting to get on our nerves. Sometimes it's a long gibberish sentence, other times it's a gibberish word in the middle of a sentence e.g. I'm doing a dowey. I realise it's a phase thing but wondered if anyone else had any experience of it? bless him he loves it when I talk gibberish back to him (which I do sometimes, particularly when it will help him eat his tea) but most of the time I tell him "you're talking gibberish!" then feel guilty for not letting his creative juices flow!

My DD (3) has an excellent vocabulary and, although she doesn't speak in gibberish she certainly has a lot of gibberish words in her vocab. She constantly makes up names for my 2 dogs and 2 cats and all of her toys, sometimes several times in a day. For eg Gus has become Piggy Boo and Tana has become Peasy.

It doesn't bother me, but then she isn't trying to communicate with me using her made up words. I guess it is just a developmental stage and one which your son will grow out of soon enough.

Wow, this is the first time I've found someone else whose DC does the gibberish thing. DS has been doing it since just before he turned 2. I think it's very cute and funny though. He likes to make up names for his bizarre K'nex structures, or the things he's drawn. He also does it for things he doesn't know the name of, like the time I finally got the food processor down (he'd been looking at it for the longest time I think) "Oh mummy's using the doggler"

I secretly tell myself it's a sign of high intelligence and that makes it all better.

my dd is forever making up words -playing with words - my neighbour who is a speech therapist says its something children do and is part of their development. Does drive me mad though
