I am having a lot of anxiety and sleepless nights about one of my twins who is almost 14 months old .

He is raising alot of red flags when I google stuff and everything says autism.

I really just want to do my best to help him but I am being told by everyone to wait . He is booked for a hearing test on Monday just to check .

Could anyone tell me what if any signs they saw in their babies at 14 months old who ended up with a diagnosis of asd am I panicking for nothing ? Any advice would be so appreciated

Things concerning me

Not responding to name

No pointing,waving or clapping

Slightly fussy eater will eat with hands but is selective over certain textures

Hard to get his eye contact for longer than a few seconds unless singing to him or playing a game

also does not seemed fussed when I pick him up from the childminders ?

Things he does do

Babbles mamma , daddada but not in context

Laughs and does make eye contact when we play peekaboo or blow bubbles / tickle him .. is this considered shared play ?

He will also try to imitate some games if I ask him to put a ball in a toy he’ll copy but won’t really stare at me while doing so he’s very focused on the ball

Hit all physical milestones on time walking by 12 months , cruising crawling by 8/9 months etc

Can anyone reassure me did anyone’s 14 month old behave similar and end up neurotypical ?

I haven’t slept for weeks as I just want to do what’s best for my baby .

At 14 months these behaviours can mean ASD or not. It's almost impossible to say, that's why they won't generally diagnose a child this young.

Try to reduce your anxiety around it. You can't change autism, either he is or he isn't, worrying isn't going to change the outcome. You'll love him and do your best no matter the outcome. There will be tough times and wonderful moments whatever the outcome.

Focus on what you can do now. Remove any screen time. Talk and sing lots. Share books and games. Get out and about. Observe him and look for ways to extend and build on his interests and play. Follow up with your HV/GP about any concerns that you have. Give him all the cuddles.

Thank you so much,
we got his hearing tested and he has glue ear which they said could be affecting him. I have reduced screens , and do all the above it’s just really hard not to worry
