DD is leaning to play the violin at school and was allowed to bring it home for the first time today. (hmm, I know, you don't have to say it!!!) She was very excited and wanted to play it to me as soon as she got home. I told her over and over again that she must look after it and treat it with care as it wasn't hers and explained to her how lucky she was to be able to bring it home and blady blady blah. I also lectured her younger sister that she mustn't touch it or play with it without her big sister being around and blady blady blah.
Anyway.....

DDs were watching tv and I thought I would be helpful and find an online violin tuner. And plucked and twisted and plucked and twisted and...

SNAP!!!!!!!

I've broken a bloody string.

Now I have to explain to the teacher what I've done

Nooo I can't blame DD - poor little love. LOL!
Yes I've faced DD and have apologised. I have told her that I will go to the office first thing tomorrow and apologise to the music teacher.

I don't think strings cost very much - and I know that violin players often need to replace them. If it had been a cello string you had snapped, it might have been a bit more serious but I really wouldn't worry too much.

you won't be the first and you won't be the last! Come clean, offer to pay, etc etc. Don't blame your DD a)it's immoral b) your DD is likely to tell her teacher what happened anyway, which would mean an even longer detention and possible exclusion

Sparkler · 22/04/2008 17:49

Do they exclude parents?

Oops.

It wasn't me, but DS1 tripped, landed on top of DS2's cello last year and broke it, to add insult to injury the whole thing fell apart just as the teacher was inspecting it.

String is small-fry in comparison, lol.

lilolilmanchester · 22/04/2008 17:53

only if they snap violin strings then blame it on their DCs!
