Just some advice/ reassurance really. My DS 8months has been unwell for bout a month on and off with sickness and diarrhoea. He went right off food and milk therefore when he was waking in the night (prior to illness he was sleeping through)i was offering and he was taking milk. Now he is back on form eating everything in sight and drinking all his milk bottles, BUT he still wakes in the night which i think is out of habit now. Have put my foot down last night, let him cry for 10 mins went in patted and sshhhed and left then went in again after 15 patted and sshhed again he soon went to sleep but woke again (prob to try his luck again i reckon!)so i did the same thing and he went back to sleep after half hr. What i want to know is this ok and how long til he is back sleeping through? Sorry for long thread!

i think seems vv reasonable to me. hard work but worth it in the end. could be tonight or in 3 month;s time in my experience!

Doing exactly the right thing. It's hard for you to listen to him crying and I am sorry for you! I sympathise!

I had to do the same thing with my ds (also 8 months!) not because of night wakings, he has always been suprisingly good at sleeping through but just to get him to nap! He would scream and scream before falling asleep in the day, even when I rocked him or cuddled him.

It drove me mad as he settles so easily at night. In the end i put him in his cot and just reassured him that if he needed me I was there but that it was time to go to sleep. He was more crying through tiredness then anything (I hope!) After 2 weeks, he now goes in his cot in the day and drifts off to sleep with no fuss at all.

I think with your ds, he may just have realised that if he cries in the night, someone will come feed him! He will soon lear that they wont, hopefully!

You are doing the right thing, otherwise it will be so hard to break the habbit and he will me missing out on vital sleep so will be tired it the day, and so will you!
