read something about her in the telegraoh yesterday and reviews seemed good on amazon. any mumsnetters read this book and got any comments on it? am first time mum (albeit with a vintage husband) and whilst i have never stuck religiously to anything in my life i would really like some kind of tips guide that might be helpful. this looked a good half way house between the various schools of thoughts out there.

I don't think I would have managed without it - for me it was like the instruction manual that dd didn't come with . In particular, I like Rachel Waddilove's approach: she's not bossy, like some other writers, and her suggested routines are not rigid, but reasonably flexible, so you don't have to stick to them rigidly. I found that having some kind of structure in my day and dd's suited me.

I thought it was exactly that - a sensible and kind half way house. I think lots of different types of babies would fit into her relaxed routine.

My dh was given a copy by the woman herself [sound of loud name dropping] through a work connection so am a leetle bit biased!

Good luck with it.

I hated it - I couldn't get my dd into any kind if schedule that she advocated. RW recommended leaving babies to cry to sleep. I felt like a bit of a failure listening to my baby cry. I actually think that the weeks and weeks of me trying to get my baby to do her 'routine' made those special few weeks very miserable. I wouldn't recommend it. I didn't think her routines were that flexable at all - you had 1/2 to get your baby to sleep????????? I walked miles and miles with the pram to follow her advice and ended up with a pelvic floor prolapse!!!!!

In the end - I chucked out the book and just followed my baby's cues and my own instinct - I ended up having a lovely time with my baby and was much more relaxed.
