4 year old behaviour typical or not ?

So DD just turned 4. She is delightful in all aspects, chatty, inquisitive, clever, caring etc.

However she has always been a challenge behaviour wise. She has always been highly strung, sensory seeking, intense emotions, boundary pushing, poor impulse control (eg running off), meltdowns, physical (mainly hitting).

We’ve always put this down to normal toddler development but now she’s 4 I’m starting to wonder. Especially as she starts school soon.

She doesn’t really listen, has to learn everything the hard way, has recently gone off all food even plain things like yoghurt and pasta, has started being strange about textures eg doesn’t like her feet touching certain things.

She’s my eldest so I have nothing to really compare it to, but compared with my friends kids she seems at the more extreme.

Does all this sounds typical for 4?

My 4yo (end of June bday) boy is a lot like this. I sometimes wonder too about whether there is some neurodiversity with him but I dont know. My youngest who was 2 end of April is so much more ‘typical’ so it does make my suspicions stronger. Sorry, not very useful but you’re not alone! Will be interested to see what others say who’s 4yo were like this but are now older.

@Boymama87 hi there thanks for the comment and solidarity. I have a younger one too who is also less highly strung it seems.

It could just be her wonderful unique personality and her trying to exercise control, which is totally fine, but just want to make sure I’m supporting her best I can.

hopefully some other people comment who have had similar experiences x
