My six year old has lost about 5 teeth and I keep coming across them, wrapped in tissue and hidden various places. Cant decide if I should keep the first one he lost and chuck out the rest or what....? What have other people done with them. Thanks.

DD1s not started falling out yet, but I know DH will insist on me chucking them away, as his BFs mum kept his childhood teeth for years, and then one day they started exploding in the jar they were kept in. He thought this was all so utterly icky and revolting, he has made me promise I won't hang onto old teeth!

snorkle · 16/04/2008 16:04

I chucked them out. They will disintegrate in time unless you varnish them in any case & I can't imagine actually wanting them later on.

ktmoomoo · 16/04/2008 16:04

got all of them in a box in an draw lol ds 14 and dd 9 so got lots of teeth , tis gross i agree

tassisssss · 16/04/2008 16:05

oh man, please don't tell me i'm supposed to keep these.

i'll chuck them for sure.

PotPourri · 16/04/2008 16:07

Not lost any in this house yet, but they will definately be binned/composted. YUK. Please please don't keep them. SEriously, what if you were presented with a bag of old grotty teeth that you had lost as a child.... Anyway, the tooth fairy takes them away surely...

Pumpernickle · 16/04/2008 16:09

Yes she's called Fairy Nuff

Springflower · 16/04/2008 16:09

What a laugh - I really thought other people would keep them too. Thought it was a bit like keeping their first shoes, etc. I did think lots of them might be a bit gross but that the first one would be acceptable. Ok, I'll definitely get rid of the others but hang on to that until it blows up or I lose it.

I am going to make a little plaster of paris model of his mouth and carefully stick all ds's teeth in the model then varnish it! Disgusting I know but I have kept my last tooth that I had out and I still have my old brace from when I was at school! What can I say? My dad is a dentist so I guess I like things like that!

Springflower · 16/04/2008 16:12

Oh great meandmyjoe that sounds much worse than any plans of mine for keeping them in a wee tin tucked away out of sight. I could make a plaster of paris model of the tooth and keep it that way?! I still have his first toothbrush somewhere although my other 2 sons will be traumatised by the fact that I havent got theirs!

We're supposed to send DS's in an envelope to a survey he is part of - 21stC child. Apparantly they will be sudying things in relation to how much environmental lead he was exposed to!

Meandmyjoe · 16/04/2008 16:15

Aww yes that reminds me, I must keep his first toothbrush too! (He's only 8 months though and is still on his first toothbrush- he's only got 1 tooth!).Yeah- make a model of the tooth if you don't like the idea of keeping it.

I think my idea sounds rather charming!

The sad thing is, I really am going to do it too!

Springflower · 16/04/2008 16:16

Lol!

Ooo blu that sounds interesting. You'll have to let us know what they come up with!

Blu · 16/04/2008 16:30

we-ll so far they have come up with the fact that on average children living with 2 natural parents are 1.5 months 'ahead' in 'pre-school readiness' than those living with single or step parents. 1.5 months! Thats 6 weeks then! I'll keep you posted, but don't get over-excited!

tootiredtothink · 16/04/2008 16:41

I'm keeping all of dc's teeth. When my mom died and we were sorting through her things we found a box with our old teeth in. TBH it meant a lot to us - and they don't take up much room!!! Although tad scared now of them exploding

ellingwoman · 16/04/2008 16:41

My three dds' teeth are stashed away in an old jewellery box. They are all lined up in order of 'losing' and are wedged in the foam buffers that I think you use to store rings. Have no idea what I'm going to do with them!

I saved my own milk teeth and I still have a couple in a box somewhere.

Meandmyjoe · 16/04/2008 16:43

Woah- a whole six weeks!!! That is enough to stop me from ever wanting a divorce then

Keep us updated anyway, I'm sure they'll find something useful out!

Vulgar · 16/04/2008 16:47

i'd like to make a little fairy castle out of Ds's.

trouble is, I haven't got enough children.
