Please help, my 4 year old has gone insane...

My 4year old has always been pretty well behaved & calm, with the odd moment of course. But over the last month or so she has started having massive tantrums at almost anything, at least once a day sometimes 3/4 times. These are always over tiny things & can go on for ages.
She starts school next month but for now everything is the same for her, going to nursery etc.
Is this a well known stage that lots of kids go through? Any advice for me? Thankyou!

Hello! I also am the parent of a four year old and we absolutely went through a very emotional dip post-four!! We are out the other side now (mostly lol) but I found out about something called the Limbic Leap 👍🏽 wondered if you'd heard of it? I hadn't!

Essentially if you read up about it, it talks of this being the time when emotional regulation is developing rapidly in the brain so it helped me understand her a little more. I also felt relief knowing she met a lot of the "symptoms" of the Limbic leap and that she wasn't just cray-cray 😂

Good luck! 🍀

I hadnt heard of Limbic Leap either but just read up on it & it makes total sense!
Did you use any strategies that worked with your LO?

I think just knowing that it was probably now something she was supposed to be doing made me calm down for a start so I was able to be more patient and ride it out more than jumping into conflict with her or getting annoyed with her. I started pushing myself to be more empathetic (even though it's so bloody hard when they're kicking off about something that's so ridiculous to us).

I also started a pocket money chart to allow her to earn rewards for doing jobs around the house which helped to focus her attention. She recently saved up another £5 and spent it on something she wanted when we were out for the day which she seemed to really enjoy.

Other than that, getting out the house into the fresh air A LOT. Although, this diabolical weather we are having in Scotland isn't helping much with that!!!!
