Bath logs. does your dc do them and if so how often??

dd poos in the bath. probably about every 3rd night. I know there are medical problems etc and I know why she does it and it is just something that is normal for us. But, when it was mentioned in passing it turns out that NONE of my friends dcs have EVER done it!

I'm starting to feel really hard done by that I have to catch so much stray poo and I'm also starting to get a reputation as a loon by talking about it at mother and toddler groups!

so please please tell me I'm not alone.... even hearing that an otherwise perfect child did it once when they were 3mo will brighten my day

my siter did this when he was about 3, we were all in the bath ages 8 6 and 3 and ive never jumped out of a bath o fast!

B1977 · 13/04/2008 22:45

Yes my 18 m/o has done it a couple of times, mainly when he was constipated, I think it's to do with the warm water being relaxing! Don't worry about it.

c0mfort · 13/04/2008 22:47

Oh yes my DD has pooed in the bath several times even up until she was about 2 1/2 years and even one or two since then. She is 4 now and not had to poopa scoop for a while How old is your dd?

my DD has done it more than her elder brothers - again i put it down to the warm water and some such
hers are bricks not logs tho and how such huge ones come out of a small child boggles me...
you are not alone!!

mazzystar · 13/04/2008 22:48

ds did it once when he was 2 and half and still tlaks about it as an exciting episode a year later.

dd who is one, has done it once or twice, prededed my much anxiety on her part, not sure whey i didn't see what was coming.....

Dalrymps · 13/04/2008 22:49

Ds pooed in the bath at about 4 months old, was at brothers house, he thought it was a prawn and was going to dive in and fish it out for me

dropscone · 13/04/2008 22:51

my dd3 suffered from really bad constipation as a baby and toddler - sometimes being in the bath would help her poo - so we used to put her in deliberately - then wheech her out at the appropriate moment - not always in time !

wrinklytum · 13/04/2008 22:53

Hi SS your post has made me cry with laughter after a bad day!!(not that I am meaning to belittle what is probably a very annoying problem).

DD has sn so I usually have a stinker waiting for me every morning without fail.I have to air her bedroom out to get rid of the pong every morning. As it will be very difficult/impossible to potty train her I fear this may be an ongoing scenario!!FWIW despite the overnight poo dd has also (infrequently) been known to poo in the bath. The most memorable was when poor ds who was in the bath with his sister suddenly announced worriedly "Mummy look, theres a worm in the bath!!".We were confronted with a log from dd.Poor ds leapt out the bath in horror when we realised what it was and now prefers to bath alone, poor lad!!!

If I were you I would invest in one of those kiddie fishing nets,or a seive.LOL

Fab op by the way, still crying with laughter

somethingsticky · 13/04/2008 22:57

thanks guys! They made me feel like such a freak because I think poo in the bath is normal Its cheered me up no end to know I'm not alone.

PMSL at the prawn! and the bricks! I guess I should be glad its just logs.

dd is 20mo and has had problems with constipation since she started on solids. she is on movical and being seen at the hospital. I know it is more comfortable to poo in the warm water and tbh I'm glad she can find a way to poo without screaming! We've just had a particularly bad few days coupled with the shocked reactions of my friends with perfect dcs that wouldn't dream of doing something so unhygenic.

Oh,poor dd I hope they manage to find something to help her.It must be uncomfortable for her.

I am just waiting for the morning dd works out how to undo her nappy aargh

SniffyHock · 13/04/2008 23:04

Like the term 'bath logs'. We call it a 'code brown'!!

somethingsticky · 13/04/2008 23:05

thanks wrinklytum. its cheered me up too

Tbh its just part of normal life for us. I don't find it particuly annoying (unless dh is doing bathtime and doesn't spot it unil she is playing with it! then, I can find the resulting chaos a little wearing )

my mym bought us a fishing game with a net which comes in very useful. haven't told her that we don't play with it as shown on the packet yet

he he!! they're known as poohmarines in our house! dd is 18 months old, no constipation or other issues, and she poohs in the bath fairly regularly, sometimes not for weeks, then every night for 3 or 4 nights. We use a very handy plastic seive for the clear up operation! Only problem is it often gets caught in the bathmat, then we have to bleach. Lovely! You are not alone!!!

Ags · 14/04/2008 00:15

Oh God yes! My ds (4) was frequently horrified by his sister's (2) logs in the bath! I think this is incredibly normal (certainly is among my friend's dcs). He seemed to develop a Russian gymnast's ability to leap from the bath.

caspercat · 14/04/2008 11:06

DD (20mths) has done it once when DH was bathing her. He said she was giggling so much it just popped out! He kindly scooped it up into our measuring jug, and left it at the side of the bath for me to deal with! I wasn't giggling - not out loud, anyway

SoupDragon · 14/04/2008 11:08

I think I've only had 1 in 9 years of parenting and 3 children!

snowleopard · 14/04/2008 11:10

Now a bath log - that would be OK. But the other day DS (nearly 3) - recovering from stomach bug - had a big diarrhoea poo in the bath. The bathmat had to be chucked out, there were just too many bits...

Anchovy · 14/04/2008 11:14

My DCs are now 4 and 6.

DS only poohed in the bath once. It was the evening of his first birthday party and he was absolutely whacked out. I think he just lost any ability to do anything. As befits a child who had been eating sandwiches, soft fruit and copious amounts of birthday cake it was gigantic.

DD probably poohed in the bath 3 nights out of 5 for about a year, between the ages of 1.5 and 2.5. She is now 4 - very bright and articulate, has never had any constipation issues, and potty trained fairly easily at 2 and a bit.

We bought a plastic sieve from poundland, would use it to scoop the pooh straight out and flick it down the low. We became incredibly nonchalent about the whole thing. Am gobsmacked that noone else in your toddler group's children do this - my neightbour had twin and one or other of them would do it pretty much every evening!

Notyummy · 14/04/2008 11:21

DD has done this twice. Once when she was really little and in a bath seat, so it was squashed and we didn't realise until we went to take her out. The other was when she was about 18 months old and she was terrified by it as it floated beside her....POOOH!!! POOOHH!!! she acreamed. Ah...the memories.

fletchaaarr · 14/04/2008 11:56

My DD goes through periods of doing this regularly - I wish they were logs, instead they disintigrate before I can clear them up. DS2 now has to be reassured that she has already gone before he gets in the bath with her, and there has to be an "emergency" towel in reach incase he has to leap from the bath. (she also doesn't like it and screams until she is removed from the poo!)

Poledra · 14/04/2008 12:05

my two dds have both done it 3 or 4 times each. DD2 did one in the shower once - only realised when dd1 said 'Mummy, there's a terrible smell in here...'
DD2 also did it in the bath once when I was away overnight, and dh had to deal with it on his own - heheheh!

Poledra · 14/04/2008 12:06

Oh, and a good friend's dd2 did a terrible diarrhoea one whilst sharing the bath with her older sister and her mother - my friend said she was screaming for dh to get himself in there and help her sort it out!

I've found this thread very amusing It's never happened to us - but now I've laughed like a drain reading this, I've invited it upon myself haven't I?
