Sleepless nights

My baby's arrived, he's gorgeous, we're thrilled etc etc. but I am so tired. And I can't sleep when he does because my toddlers on the go from 7am. He's 7 weeks old, and currently feeds every three/four hours all day and night. Any ideas on how to prolong the night sleep? I think my daughter just did it one day at around 6 weeks of her own accord. We've tried calm time before bed - bath, drink in a dark room, etc. but he's awake again at 12, 4 and 7ish. Am I expecting too much? I long for more than four hours kip in one stretch. (He's taking 5 ounces a feed and 6oz at 8pm and 12.)

sorry but it sounds quite normal for his age - he could also be having a growth spurt as they are common at this age too. I remember the shock to the system that ds was as you forget the toll that sleep deprivation has on you (I had a 3 year old to contend with at the same time). I cant actually remember when he started going a bit longer at night but do remember him having a night feed till he was 8 months (and he was bottle fed!!).

You could try either waking him for a feed when you go to bed or give him a dreamfeed instead (lift and feed him without waking him) and see if that helps.

That sounds normal to me too. My DS is 7 weeks tomorrow and he is eating at 7/8pm, waking up just after midnight, then again at 4am and then 6am (7am if I am lucky and 8 am one morning when I got REALLY lucky!).

Sigh I need sleep too!
